BILT Student Fellow for Active and Inclusive Learning, Siqi Shen has been looking at the results of one of our recent surveys, completed by over 600 students studying at Temple Quarter.

We wanted to find out, first hand, what it’s been like for students navigating the new Sloane Robinson Building since it opened, in September.

Through a short online survey, we asked students about their overall learning experience, what they valued about the new teaching spaces, and what they thought could be improved.

Students gave their thoughts on everything from the the comfort of the building itself, facilities, resources and flexibility of the spaces to adapt to different learning styles, through to the challenges of adapting to a new campus and location.

We visualised the responses to one particular question into a word cloud. What feels different about the new building, compared with other learning spaces at the University?

A word cloud featuring terms related to collaboration, engagement, and flexible learning environments, with emphasis on discussion, accessibility, and innovative classroom design.

You can read Siqi’s full report on the survey on our blog.

We are delighted to share that we are supporting the application of three brilliant colleagues for the Advance HE – National Teaching Fellowships this year – you can read more about their experience and teaching journeys in their introductory blogs, below. We wish them every success with this year’s applications.

We are also supporting a CATE nomination for the Aerosol Science CDT Core Team.

To kick off the new academic year, we’ve held a series of events primarily aimed at project holders funded by BILT, but open to anyone interested in the topics covered.

Our final workshop takes place next Wednesday (11 November) in The Helen Wodehouse Building, 35 Berkeley Square. The 1-hour event will look at all aspects of designing and delivering active and inclusive focus group activities.

For more details about the event and a link to sign up, please visit the event page on our blog.

Along with all the other departments currently based in 31 Great George Street, BILT is relocating.

From next week, our new address will be 2nd floor, 11-13 Tyndalls Park Road, BS8 1PY.

We’d love for you to share your teaching plans for the year with us – whether it’s trying out something new in the classroom, utilising online tools or taking your students off campus to develop peer relationships (or anything else!).

Writing a blog for BILT is a great way to share your practice, develop your writing skills and raise your profile within the University. We have writing guidelines available to use and we will support you through drafting your piece.
