Senior Lecturer, School of Biological Sciences
He is a wonderful example for me as to how to be a successful academic with ADHD.
His lectures are perfectly aimed and specific in significance of different aspects, fascinating in content and lighthearted in delivery. Every week we get an email to introduce the following week, and they are so delightful and excited; my personal favourite was the one that opened “Welcome to Worm Week!”. What a wonderful way to remind us why we are here learning what we are.
I approached him when I was really struggling despite him not knowing me personally and his advice was clear, kind, useful and he checked in on me by name after a following lecture. He is a very special person to lead a whole module – he has an intimate style…and I don’t think you can teach that.
In his EDI work Dave has brought opportunities for discussions in a variety of issues to challenge old ways of working to make positive changes for the future. Within his teaching he now integrates material on EDI issues into our curriculums for example by teaching our undergraduates about protected characteristic and ways to decolonise the curriculum.
