Another record-breaking conference!
Thank you to everyone who came along to the Victoria Rooms at the beginning of the month for our 2026 conference: Student-Centred By Design. Once again, we broke our own record for the most delegates attending a BILT conference.
We’ve updated the conference homepage to include links to all the presentations, workshop slides and posters from the day, as well as a bumper selection of images taken by our official photographer, Jon Rowley. If you missed the day, or if you were there and want to re-visit anything, do check out the page.
BILT would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of this amazing day, including all the speakers, presenters, session chairs, behind the scenes helpers, and especially our two keynote speakers, Dr Jo Hartland (pictured below) and Dr Susan Kenyon.

Updated University Principles on AI in Education
The University has recently updated it’s principles on the use of AI in educational contexts, with seven key considerations to make when designing courses and assessments. You can view the principles on the BILT SharePoint site.
Could your school support a Sustainability Advocate for 2026-27?
You can fund a trained student Sustainability Advocate to work with your school for up to six hours a week throughout the academic year. Advocates will work towards helping schools to embed sustainability into the curriculum, and support climate action and other Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) initiatives.
The programme has already delivered significant benefits across the University, with staff highlighting the positive impact Advocates have had in advancing sustainability within their disciplines, gathering valuable student feedback, and driving meaningful educational change.
This year, the cost of funding an advocate has reduced to £2000 per year. So, find out how you can help support and develop a future changemaker in our information pack (plain text version here).

Thank you to those who have already responded, but we’re still on the lookout for staff and students to test a ‘Decolonising Education’ resource we are currently developing, which is largely based on the FutureLearn ‘Decolonising Education: From Theory to Practice’ course.
If you have 30 minutes to spare and would like to provide some feedback to us during the week of 20 July in exchange for a £20 Love2Shop gift card, please email us at bilt-info@bristol.ac.uk.
We will send you a link to the course on 20 July and feedback would need to be provided by 24 July 2026.

As part of BILT’s ongoing programme of training/familiarisation events to support colleagues transitioning to teach at TQEC, we’re pleased to announce a series of ‘Try it out’ sessions at the newly named Bill Brown Forum (Lecture theatre in-the-round) at Temple Quarter.
There are 4 sessions in September and 2 in January. Places are limited to 10 people per session, so sign-up quickly.
