Hey! My name is Elliot and I am the Student Fellow focusing on ‘Active Learning’ here at BILT. I am a second year Sociology with Quantitative Research Methods student, and one day I hope to go into a career in Social Research full time, as I believe good research is the basis for positive change in the world. I also work as a student ambassador at UoB (when I have time to spare, which is not very often!) and have worked on several research projects in the past, including the High Fliers Top 100 Graduate Employers report for 2025 (you can read this here if you’re interested!).
I’m excited to be working on the theme of active learning, as I’m quite passionate about ensuring all learning spaces are accessible, engaging, and that all students feel like they want to be there. As someone who is neurodivergent, teaching spaces and styles have often not been accessible to me throughout my education, and sometimes this meant that I could not turn up to my classes or engage with the content, making me feel left out. Therefore, I’m so glad to have this opportunity to work with BILT and the university to innovate a variety of ways to deliver teaching to all students that pushes conventional boundaries and makes sure everyone feels like they can take part in and enjoy their qualification.
I’m also very keen to support a transition into the University’s new campus, Temple Quarter, by discovering how the immersive teaching spaces can be put to their best use and using this as a guidance for the rest of the university campus. I also hope to make sure that important transferable life skills, such as communication, team work, creativity, etc, are valued and delivered in all courses alongside content.
I moved to Bristol from my small hometown in Wiltshire just over a year ago, and I absolutely love the city as well as the university. I especially love how active the creative arts scene is here, as I am a theatre kid (here is a show I was in recently with PantoSoc, please feel free to come and see me perform in the future!). I also love hiking and camping, I often go for prolonged walks through Bristol’s beautiful outdoors – evidence here of me getting distracted by a cave. I’ve had a great year and I want every student here to be able to enjoy their time in the city as well as their time learning as much as I have so far.
