We’re recruiting for the BILT Student Research Journal and Festival

BILT is delighted to announce that applications are now open for subject editorial board members, journal submissions and conference presentations for 2025-26. Please share the link below with any students you know who may be interested.

The cover of the 2024-25 Student Journal

BILT’s Student Research Journal is an online, peer-reviewed journal, dedicated to the encouragement of students and the wider academic community to value student research. All articles are subject to thorough peer-review, after making it past a competitive selection process.

The deadline to apply for editorial boards is 12 January 2026.

The Student Research Conference (formally known as the Student Research Festival) offers students the opportunity to present their work to academics and peers. This year we are creating space for students to get feedback on their research before submitting to the Student Research Journal. The conference will also have three winning presentations, selected by expert judges, and these presentations will be featured in the Journal’s highlights magazine in the summer.

The Student Research Conference will be hosted on the 20 February 2026 in the Great Hall, Wills memorial Building.

New: Pedagogic research training

We are excited to announce the launch of online training modules to support colleagues to take their first steps in pedagogic research. These three self-paced modules introduce participants to the main steps of pedagogic research including the types of data and data analysis that are used in pedagogic research, and help participants identify potential funding and dissemination routes.

Each module takes approximately 30-60 minutes to complete.

The training modules will be supported by a BILT workshop that will be carried out in person in spring 2026. This workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to consolidate the material covered in the modules and meet colleagues who are new and experienced in pedagogic research for further support with their own project.

I found the training super helpful overall; between it and the BILT conference this year, it gave me the confidence to get going with a small project which I got ethics approved for over the summer.”

Through examples and discussion, this workshop will explore what it means to work as a tempered radical. We will consider a number of different ‘drivers’ that impact organisations’ engagement, and how tempered radicals can put them to work to accelerate the pace of change of society.
