Hi everyone!! I am Gaurav Saxena, a third-year PhD student in Psychology from India. My research is on the decolonisation of the Psychology curriculum. Specifically, I am hoping (at least trying!) to understand what students think of the various psychology curriculum decolonisation initiatives that Bristol and other universities are undertaking. My aim is to understand what is working, what is not, under what circumstances, and why, and to use this learning to better inform our strategies going forward.
As a postgraduate student who has been teaching for the last three years, I am continually reflective about what we can do to make learning a more equitable, enjoyable, and fulfilling opportunity for students. To this end, I am also working towards an Associate Fellowship with CREATE as a benchmark for my teaching and pedagogic practices.
This year, I decided to take my interest in learning and teaching research a bit further. I have taken on a new role with BILT as a student fellow! We know how Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT have impacted our daily lives, and education is no different. They are rapidly changing, or rather challenging, what we know about how knowledge can be created or applied. The use of GenAI tools has exploded among students. While not all usage has been ethical or upheld academic integrity, AI is here to stay. It is a crucial time for us to consider the best, most effective, yet responsible ways of fostering this emerging employability skill among students.
I will be working on this increasingly important and very interesting theme, developing a “principled approach to GenAI.” My work will be guided by three principles: a responsible, equitable, and dynamic approach to using AI. I look forward to working and collaborating with educators, students, academic support staff, and anyone in between to support my work on using AI in a responsible, equitable, and dynamic manner. If my project interests you, I would be very happy to chat with you!
