Teaching Associate, School of Computer Science

It’s been so interesting seeing students Jess first taught in Year 1 coming into the final years with this massive love for her subject. If someone had told me that 3rd Years would be begging to swap the times of their classes so they could go to Haskell Club, I would not have believed it before I saw it! But it’s clear the influence Jess has had on them, and in the way the Second Years talk about her subject too. She’s such a strong teacher, who is always looking for new ways to improve and inspire.

I can name at least a dozen students who have told me that she has given them the confidence to be themselves and to feel like they belong, too, and I know her influence is much wider. She’s so thoughtful, always working to include everyone and to enable students with additional needs to be able to engage. She is passionate about social justice, and whether teaching, in meetings or in the staff areas, makes our working and learning environment a better place. We are lucky to have her here.
