Lecturer, School of Arts
Genevieve is really good at working with us in lectures and tailoring lectures to how we are generally – at times when we’re tired in term she wakes up with some mindfulness, and when we’re active and engaged she challenges us to push the boundaries of our current thinking.
We are lucky enough to be going to Vienna in her class as she won us study abroad funding, meaning we have a whole new scope of the topics we are studying.
Genevieve always goes above and beyond to provide interesting, thought provoking and relevant lectures to us. She links historical analysis to our lives today and always leaves us with lots to ponder!
We are allowed to do both podcasts and video essays as well as typical essays in her classes, which adds real variation and allows more unique ideas. Especially considering we are studying music, being allowed to incorporate musical examples is great. She also has really fun formative quizzes in class, and prep questions that really allow us to think deeply and about the topics we’re studying and develop our own nuanced opinions, whilst keeping it fun and exciting.
Genevieve always provides interesting content that she is clearly passionate about. Her attitudes towards her content is inspiring and she is incredibly engaging as a lecturer.
Genevieve always makes sure to create a safe learning space for us to share our thoughts without judgement. She addresses ways in which academia can be broadened to include voices that have been historically ignored and looks for other perspectives to challenge us.
