Lecturer, School of Engineering Mathematics and Technology

We have made great strides in attracting and progressing female students in a male dominated programme (engineering, mathematics and computer programming) and Chanelle has made a significant personal contribution to female students feeling valued members of our school and the university.

As a role model she is helping students have the confidence to be ambitious about their future career plans. Students feel safe and supported with Chanelle and she has helped a large number of students discuss and reflect on their identity.

Her way of breaking down problems into smaller, manageable steps, makes difficult situations so much more easy to tackle and less scary. In 1-1 meetings, she offers coding support, advice on revision planning and study techniques, and in workshops, she’s so friendly and proactive in talking to each student to make sure they feel comfortable and know what they need to do.

I’m at the end of my final year, but I feel like I know myself a lot more and I feel braver in making my own decisions, in knowing what I want, and knowing what inspires me.
