Aya Elghajiji

Senior Research Associate, Bristol Medical School (THS)

Aya fosters an environment where students can freely explore their ideas, engage in interdisciplinary projects, and pursue ambitious research projects aligned with their interests. While encouraging us to strive for excellence, Aya cultivates a culture where mistakes are embraced as opportunities for growth.

Aya’s guidance instils in us a sense of curiosity and perseverance, reminding us that hard work pays off by citing our past achievements and encouraging us to envision the broader impact of our research.

Aya’s approachability is a cornerstone of her supervisory style, where she creates an environment where students feel comfortable, seeking guidance and sharing concerns. She welcomes questions of any size, fostering an environment where no question is deemed insignificant. Rather than providing answers outright, she encourages us to explore solutions independently, guiding us through insightful questioning, thereby encouraging independent and critical thinking.

Aya has consistently encouraged me and other students to join relevant professional societies and attend academic conferences. Moreover, she invests significant time and effort in assisting us with our presentations, ensuring that we effectively communicate our research findings to the broader academic community.
