Hello everyone! My name is Hrishant, and I am one of the BILT Student Fellows for this year. As I reflect on my journey as a passionate law student in my third and final year at the University of Bristol, I feel grateful for the multitude of opportunities that have shaped my experience thus far. Originating from Tamil Nadu in South India, my aspiration to become a solicitor is driven by a strong desire to advocate for those who are often underserved or overlooked in society. This passion has been fuelled by my involvement with the University of Bristol Law Clinic, where I have gained invaluable insights into the legal challenges faced by individuals from low-income or underrepresented backgrounds.

As a BILT Student Fellow, the opportunity to engage in initiatives that empower student voices is incredibly fulfilling. The Student Research Festival we are organizing is more than just an event; it’s a crucial space for students to showcase their research and engage with significant contemporary themes.
This year, I am particularly interested in exploring how technology can impact legal practice across various dimensions—such as artificial intelligence in legal research, data privacy laws, and the ethical implications of technology in legal practice. However, I want to emphasize that these themes are not yet finalized and are still under discussion. We are considering a range of topics that not only hold substantial relevance but also have global implications.
I firmly believe that creating opportunities for students to share their research is vital for fostering active engagement in academia. By empowering students to take ownership of their intellectual journeys, we encourage a spirit of inquiry that explores topics that resonate with their passions and experiences. Throughout my academic career, whether as the online lead editor for DICTA Magazine or as president of the Unity and Diversity in Law Society, I have witnessed how collaborative efforts can lead to meaningful advocacy and thought-provoking scholarly work.
I look forward to collaborating with my fellow Student Fellows to craft a memorable and impactful festival for all attendees. Our aim is to build upon the successes of previous years while unveiling exciting themes. I am eager to connect with students, staff, and contributors from diverse disciplines, and I truly believe that our collective efforts can enrich the academic landscape here at Bristol.
Please feel free to reach out if you would like more information about the project or theme, or if you’re interested in contributing. Together, let’s make this festival a remarkable celebration of research and creativity that leaves a lasting impact!
Thank you!
