As we reach the winter break, members of the BILT team offer some different recommendations (please note any links are illustrative and not endorsements of where to purchase).
- From one of the BILT team:
‘I engaged with Rob Thatcher’s work on an AI chatbot. It is so interesting to explore what might be possible and to test it to make sure it is fit for purpose and it is fine to conclude that it is not ready or not the right approach.’
2. We also a recommendation from the team for:
‘All About Love: New Visions’ by bell hooks. By all accounts this is ‘a brilliant book that will change how we think about love, our culture-and one another’.

3. For a different pace of television from much of the usual festive fare, a recommendation is for any episode of ‘Japan’s Master of Restoration’ which offers a great opportunity to explore someone crafting and attending to details.

4. On the theme of crafting, materials scientist Dr Anna Ploszajski’s book ‘Handmade’ ‘recounts a scientist’s adventure through the world of craft’. Our BILT Team recommender particularly enjoyed chapter 5: ‘clay’.

5. Another endorsement is for this 20 minute TED talk by Brené Brown – the Power of Vulnerability.
From the BILT team comes a recommendation for ‘an interesting talk touching on the fact that if we ‘numb’ vulnerability, we can numb other more positive feelings, such as joy. I’m looking forward to reading her book when I have some down time over the festive season.’’

6. Our final recommendation in this list is for the memoir ‘Takeaway’ by Angela Hui. One of the BILT team appreciated the engaging writing, thoughtful personal recollections and the new insights it provided them with.

Whatever you engage with over the winter break, hopefully you find it rewarding.
Best wishes,
BILT Team
