It matters on the subject, however with tools like Mediasite we see a lot of students simply skipping lectures and then only watching those “useful” for them. That again depends on their assignments. I believe that marketisation of HE is slowly pushing us out of the traditional waters of education. From my own experience, on the other hand, I know how little some students enjoy engagement in seminars and tutorials and prefer the lecture format of education. That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t try and evolve and push our students out of the comfort zone. Only that way we wil achieve “something above the average”.
