Who are universities for? (Brigstow Institute)
November 15, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Who are universities for? And are they still fit for purpose? A new book by three Bristol academics argues for a radical shake up of how we organise and fund higher education and how it fits into our lives.
At this event, Tom Sperlinger, Richard Pettigrew and Josie McLellan will introduce their proposals for a very different university system, where part time study is the norm, and where admission to university is no longer determined by A-Levels. They contend that this will result in a university that is fairer, healthier, and more responsive to the needs of both students and society.
These proposals will be debated by a panel of experts, including Nasra Ayub (Bristol SU), Nicola Dandridge (Chief executive, Office for Students) and other speakers (to be confirmed), followed by a Q&A and a chance for the audience to have their say.
The Reception Room is accessible to wheelchair users via a lift and there is a fixed hearing loop. Please see the Disabled Go report for more detailed information.
Copies of the book, published by Bristol University Press, will be available to buy at a launch discount.
