Tools for Tempered Radicals: Changing the system from within

December 2 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Overview

What drives organisations to be more environmentally engaged? How can motivated people within organisations work to move things forward?

2-4pm, AIMS Seminar Room 1, E323

What drives organisations to be more environmentally engaged? How can motivated staff and students within organisations work to move things forward? Can such ‘tempered radicals’ really make a difference, and how do they relate to activists protesting from outside?

Through examples and discussion, this workshop will explore what it means to work as a tempered radical. We will consider a number of different ‘drivers’ that impact organisations’ engagement, and how tempered radicals can put them to work to accelerate the pace of change of society.

This 2-hour workshop will be hosted by Professor Chris Preist, University Academic Director of Sustainability. It will draw on his experience as a tempered radical: firstly in the private sector at Hewlett Packard Research Labs galvanising activity in the company initially locally, then globally. Subsequently at the University of Bristol, influencing both corporate behaviour in the IT and media sector, and the university itself.

Tickets to this event are limited so please let us know if you are no longer able to make it so that your place can be reallocated.
